Amanda Marie Hicks


Amanda Marie Hicks, 92, of Enon, Ohio, beloved and devoted wife, mother and grandmother departed this life on May 31, 2007 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Monticello, Kentucky, the daughter of Henry and Canzada (Southwood) Winfrey.

She was the cornerstone of a large and loving family, our connection to the past and ever present reminder of the importance of family. Mrs. Hicks was blessed with ninety-two years of fierce independence and self-sufficiency, while enjoying the role of matriarch. She was a member of First Baptist Church and lived in the Enon area for over forty-five years.

She is predeceased by her husband, Herschel; one daughter, Mary Prior; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Prior.

She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth Stephenson; three adoring daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Phillip Blevins of Monticello, Kentucky, June and Ronald Simison of Springfield, Ohio, Linda and Allan Vrable of Powell, Ohio; eleven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Amanda was a kind and unconditional woman who had an endless capacity to nurture those she loved. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and virtue.

A gathering of family and friends will be held in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME Sunday from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home Monday, June 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Clyde Bowen officiating.

Burial will follow in Enon Cemetery.
