Richard Nelson Funk


Richard Nelson Funk, 91, of Springfield, died at 11:12 p.m. Saturday, July 19, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center High Street Campus.

He was born January 5, 1917 in Springfield, OH to Paul W. and Mabel (Nelson) Funk.

Dick had taken over as owner/operator of Roberts Ironworks Company (RIWCO) from his father following his return from WW II. He ran the family business for 40 years retiring in 1985 at which time his son David Funk, third generation, purchased the company. He was a WW 2 U.S. Marine Corp Veteran having served in Japan, charter member of the Northwood Hills Country Club, member of the Springfield Country Club and had quietly supported many community activities through the efforts of his wife, Ann, who died in 1988.

Survivors include 4 children and spouses, David and Gayle Funk, Springfield, Leslie and Larry Hay, Nicholsville, KY, Carolyn and Fred Neville, Lakeland, FL and Priscilla Cooke, Springfield; 6 grandchildren, Kristie Funk, Andrea (Ben) Bottorff, Bryan Funk, Alex Hay, Josh and Sam Cooke; 4 great grandchildren, Olivia, Avery, Emerson and Matthew; and a special friend, Marjorie Smith. In addition to his wife, Ann, a sister, Pauline Stahl, preceded him in death.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Oakwood Village for the care given to their father.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday in the CONROY FUNERAL HOME with Rev. Franklin Sparks Pastor Emeritus of Northminster Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends 2 hours prior, beginning at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.

The family request memorial donations to Northminster Presbyterian Church.
