Michael W. Fenner


Michael W. Fenner, 59, of Springfield passed away at home Monday April 14, 2008 at 9:00 p.m. surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born December 6, 1948 in Fayette County, OH to Wayne and Lela (Shipley) Fenner.

Mike retired from International after 31 years of service, was Past President of the Veterans Committee of Local 402 and served as Local 402 Union Steward. He served in Vietnam in 1968-1969 and was awarded the National Defense Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, Marksman, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star Medal. He was a Lifetime member of the VFW Post 1031 where he served two terms as the Commander,was a sons advisor for many years and dedicated his life to fellow Veterans. He also was a member of the Union Club and an avid Cleveland Browns Fan.

Those who loved him and are left to cherish his memories are his wife and companion of 24 years, Jill (Worthen) Fenner; 3 daughters, Christine Hensley, Lisa (Shaun) Allen and Jamie (Kenneth) Page all of Springfield; 6 grandchildren, A.J. and Taylor Hensley, Lauren Trey and Destinee Allen and his name sake, Michael Page; 3 brother, Ed (Mary), Rick (Mitzi) and Doug (Denise) Fenner; 4 sisters, Linda (Frank) Stahl, Pam Frederick and David Snyder of Springfield, Bonnie (Denny) Wright, Great Falls, Montana and Vicky (Dan) Crouse, Hillsdale, Oklahoma; Uncle Bill Fenner; Aunt Berneda Shipley; and many nieces and nephews. His family meant everything to him and he adored each and every one of them. He was blessed with many dear and close friends and cherished their friendship.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and father in law, David Worthen.

Special thanks to Dr. Felix Kencana and his staff at the Springfield Cancer Center for all their care during Mike's treatment. Words alone cannot explain how much Mike was loved and will be missed.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the Conroy Funeral Home with VFW services at 7:30 p.m. A celebration of Mike's life will be held at 12:00 noon Friday at the VFW Post 1031 Youth Building. Memorial donations can be made in Mike's memory to the VFW Post 1031, 1237 E. Main St., Springfield, OH 45505.
