Thomas James Ekstrom

Thomas James Ekstrom, 63, of Wilmington, NC, died Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.

He was born on March 18, 1946 in Duluth, MN, the son of the late Howard "Howie" B. Ekstrom and Beverly D. Lattimer Ekstrom. Also remembered is his brother, Dan Howard Ekstrom who preceded him in death.

Mr. Ekstrom retired as a supervisor with the Parks and Recreation Department in Springfield, OH. He moved to Wilmington in 1985 to become a business owner. Mr. Ekstrom was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #343, Legion #69 in Wilmington, the Fraternal Order of Elks BPO No. 532, and American Legion Post 10. He will be remembered by his family and many friends for his giving nature, his willingness to help others, and as a person who never met a stranger.

Surviving is his son, Brett Ekstrom; his daughter, Kelley Cliver and husband Carl; two grandchildren, Melana and Brandon Bridges; two sisters, Sharon Aspden and husband Brian, Linda Tribbett and husband Gary; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Monday, March 23, 2009 at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center, 1406 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
