James L. Erwin


James L. Erwin, 73, of Springfield, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, August 29, 2007 in the Ridgewood Nursing Home.

He was born on May 5, 1934 in Delaware, Ohio the son of Ivan and Mary (Howey) Erwin. Jim served our country in the United States Army. He retired from the Columbus Dispatch and owned the Mechanicsburg Creamery until the late 90's. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 397, the Moose Family Lodge, the Union Club, and VFW Post 1031.

Jim is survived by three daughters: Lisa Hoffman of Nevada, Joyce Lavely of California, and Sue Callicoat of Springfield, three step-daughters and two sons-in-law: Donna and Rich Lewis of Indian Lake; Patti and Doug King of Enon; and Anna Peterson of South Vienna; three step-sons and daughters-in-law: Don and Deb Peterson of Columbus; Tim and Sandie Peterson of Hilliard; and Fred and Melva Peterson of St. Paris; one sister, Mary Ritter of Columbus, one step sister, Marlene Humm of Massillon, twenty-seven grandchildren, several great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Ruth Erwin, daughter, Catherine Lascko, one sister, Caroline Crum and one brother, Milton Kimmel.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007 from 6-8 pm in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 3:00 pm with Reverend Frederick W. Peterson officiating.

Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
