Stephen R. Downey
Stephen R. Downey, 51, of Springfield, died at 9:40 p.m. Monday June 26, 2007 in Mercy Medical Center surrounded by his family following a 2 month battle with cancer.
He was born March 7, 1956 in Springfield, OH to Charles G. and W. Rose (Hunt) Downey. Steve formerly owned and operated Downey Radiator Repair for a number of years. He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and Alcoholics Anonymous.
He is survived by a son and spouse, Stephen M. and Amanda Downey; 2 grandchildren, John and Abigail; his mother, Rosie Downey; a sister, Cheryl (Danny) Wise; 2 brothers, Mike Downey and Kevin (Darlene) Downey all of Springfield; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and many wonderful friends he met in Alcoholics Anonymous.
Friends may call in the Conroy Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in St. Bernard Church with burial in Ferncliff Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society or the Springfield Regional Cancer Center.
