Ruth E. Dickinson


Ruth E. (Spear) Dickinson, 79, of Springfield died Saturday, December 27, 2008 in Sterling House. She was born August 11, 1929 in Clark County the daughter of Elvin and Florence (Elder) Spear and was a 1947 graduate of Moorefield High School.

Mrs. Dickinson had worked as a bookkeeper for Roger's Jewelers, Springfield Bank, Stradling Tool Rental and the Paul Deer Farm. She was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, taught Sunday School, was a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a 4-H Sewing Club Advisor, and participated in the YMCA Summer Tennis Clinic and the parental organizations at Reid Elementary and Middle Schools and Shawnee High School.

Ruth is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law John Charles and Susan Dickinson of Danville, Kentucky, David Robert and Linda Dickinson of Mechanicsburg; two daughters and sons-in-law Sally Louise and John Andrews of Springfield, Martha Lyn and Denis Campbell of Cedarville; one brother and sister-in-law John and Janet Spear of Ona, Florida; one sister and brother-in-law Anna and Robert Crater of Springfield; seven grandchildren Adam, Ryan, Heather, Rachel, Jenny, Austin and Julie; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Ross Dickinson; brother Robert Spear; two sisters Olive Caldwell and Sarah Oberly.

Friends may call Friday from 5-8 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 AM. in the Memorial Home with Pastor Daniel Powell officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church or to Alterra Sterling House. The family would like to express a heartfelt "Thank You" to the staff of Sterling House for the fine care of their mother.
