Paul Lester Duckett, Sr.

Paul Lester Duckett, Sr., 93, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2008 in Eaglewood Care Center.

He was born in Springfield on November 21, 1914 the son of Arthur and Cora (Henry) Duckett.

Paul served in the US Army Air Force during WW2 as a military policeman and was stationed in Cairo, Egypt. He married Margaret McCann of Huntsville, AL on May 31, 1945, and shared fifty-two years of marriage until her death on October 1, 1997. Paul roamed the country for many years as a truck driver for the old Byerman Moving Company before going to work at WPAFB. After he retired from WPAFB, he managed a series of stores at the Southern Village Shopping Center, including the Raceway, the Tangerine Room and the Cocktail Lounge, before opening Paul's Raceway in the Arcade downtown. He returned to Southern Village Shopping Center to operate the Village Laundromat & Dry Cleaners for many years. He also worked several years for Drug Castle as a security guard and loss prevention. Paul was an exceptional person who never met a stranger and he will be long remembered for his friendliness, his kindness and sense of humor. He enjoyed fishing, bingo, drawing and being around people. Paul always had a joke or a story to tell to brighten your day. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His nickname at WPAFB was "Blue Eyes".

Survivors include a son Paul L. Duckett Jr, Springfield, OH, two grand-daughters who were his pride and joy Paula Lynn (David) Northern and Shauna Rae Gullett; two great grandchildren Emmalee Nicole Northern and Brandon Kenneth Northern and his former daughter-in-law and guardian Shari Eipper and many, many friends who considered him part of their family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Margaret and a brother John William Duckett, two sisters Myrtle Smith and Hazel Woodland.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to Oakwood Village for their many years of care and compassion and to Eaglewood Village Memory Care Unit for their care during his last weeks with us.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday in the Conroy Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to donors favorite charity. /p>
