Jack L. Downs


Jack L. Downs, 81, of Springfield, died Friday afternoon, January 25, 2008 at Forest Glen Health Campus. He was born in Springfield on August 30, 1926 the son of the late Gerald and Luella (Chronister) Downs.

In 1988, Jack retired from International Truck & Engine after 23 years of service. He was a member of First Christian Church and was a U.S. Navy WWII veteran. He enjoyed music, dancing and card playing.

He is survived by his wife of 53½ years, Carol J. (Crow) Downs; a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Kevin Henningan of Birmingham, Alabama; two sisters, Donna (John) North and Irene Ehlinger of Springfield; two grandchildren, Megan and Bryan Henningan; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and Jerry Downs and a brother-in-law, Don Ehlinger.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Forest Glen Health Campus and Dr. Arthur Win for their tender care for Jack these past two months.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Mr. John Wilson officiating. Entombment will be in Rose Hill Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund, 3638 Middle Urbana Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45502.
