Margaret Christopher


Margaret Christopher, 92, of Springfield, died Friday, March 6 at Villa Springfield Nursing Home. She was born in Springfield on April 28, 1916, the daughter of James and Elizabeth (Hillery) LaManna.

Margaret was a 1934 graduate of Springfield High School. She was employed at the Springfield Automobile Club for many years and was a Deputy Registrar for the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Active in local politics for over 50 years, Margaret was a poll worker, a precinct chairman and served on the Republican Central Committee. Margaret, a long-time member and former officer of the Republican Women of Clark County, was honored as the Republican Woman of the Year for 2001 and became the first recipient of the Caroline Smith Award.

Her loving and caring family survive: two sons and daughters-in-law, Lanny and Joann Christopher of Columbus, Ohio and Gene and Carol Christopher of Jacksontown, Ohio; seven grandchildren and spouses, five great-grandchildren and two sisters-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn, in 1984; her three brothers and 2 sisters-in-law, Joseph LaManna, James and Helen LaManna, Vince "Butch" and Jane LaManna; a brother-in-law, Carey Spears; a nephew, James "Jim" LaManna and a great-nephew, William Amsden.

Friends may call on Monday, March 9th from 4-7 pm at CONROY FUNERAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 10th at 10 am in the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Margaret's nephew Rev. Ralph Spears of Indianapolis. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.

Margaret asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, in care of Catholic Charities, 701 East Columbia Street, Springfield, OH 45503.
