William J. Baader
William J. Baader, 91, of Springfield, OH died peacefully at 1:15 a.m. Thursday March 19, 2009 in Springfield Regional Medical Center High Street Campus. He was born on May 26, 1917 in Springfield, OH to Jacob and Marie (Sweeney) Baader.
Bill was a very active member of St. Teresa Catholic Church, participating as a Eucharistic Minister since 1987 and volunteered many hour to craft woodwork for the church and parish house. He was a 1935 graduate of Catholic Central High School. A retired cabinetmaker, in later years he became a maker of miniature tools. He was Past President and life member of the Mid West Tool Collectors Association, a Past President and life member of the Ohio Tool Collectors Association and an avid collector of antique tools since 1942. As a life member of the Amateur Trap Shooting Association, he enjoyed trap shooting for 25 years. He was an Assistant District Commissioner of the Boy Scouts, a trustee of the Clark County Historical Society, member of the Champaign County Historical Society and a member of the Springfield Ohio Engineers Club. He was married on April 29, 1939 to Mary Catharine (Richey) Baader, his wife of 69 years.
He is survived by his wife; one son, William "Fritz" (Valerie) Baader; two grandchildren, Travis H. (Rachel) Baader and Meredith H. (Adam Blumhorst) Baader; a great granddaughter, Elizabeth Baader and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Catharine Baader, a sister, Mary Margaret Baader and a brother, Joseph Baader.
Friends may call in the Conroy Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in St. Teresa Church. Burial will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Teresa Church or the Animal Welfare League.
