Sally Beam


Sally Beam, 79 of Springfield, passed away on Friday, August 29, 2008 at the Hearth & Home. She was born on November 18, 1928 in Indianapolis, Indiana the daughter of James and Myrtle (Hoy) McBride.

Sally received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Indiana University and was a Lab Technician at Community Hospital for over twenty years. She was active in various organizations throughout Clark County, some of which include: the Springfield Country Club, Young Women's Mission - Nearly New, Women's Town Club, Planned Parenthood, Alpha Chi Omega Alumni Club and Women's Medical Auxiliary (Past President). Sally also loved singing in church choirs throughout her life some of which were, Covenant Presbyterian Church, Oakland Presbyterian Church, and the High Street United Methodist Church. All during Sally's life she was devoted to animals. Owning dogs, rescuing many dogs and cats, making sure the birds, squirrels, and other woodland creatures had food and water. She also supported many organizations committed to animal welfare.

She is survived by three daughters and one son-in-law: Christy and David Marshall of Michigan, Cathy Beam of California, and Connie Lookabaugh of Indiana; grandchildren: Aram (Lauren) Marshall, Dr. Erica Marshall, Jared (Lorel) Smith, and Jessica (Scott) VanDyke; one niece, Lisa (Mike) Uxa, two nephews: James (Mary) McBride III, and Matthew McBride, special friends, Stacey and Dana Frey, and her special little dog, Baxter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-five years, Robert B. "Doc" Beam, brother and sister-in-law, James (Nancy) McBride II, and a nephew, Mark McBride.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. in the High Street United Methodist Church, 230 E. High St. Springfield. The family will receive friends before the service at 2:00 p.m. and following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Young Women's Mission - Nearly New, 923 W. Main St., Springfield, 45504 or the American Miniature Schnauzer Rescue, 2185 Sunnyhill Dr., Lancaster, OH 43130.

The family is being served by the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
