Robert W. Bishop, Sr.


Robert W. Bishop, Sr., 77 of Springfield died at 4:00 a.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009 in Friends Care Center. He was born December 16, 1931 in Springfield the son of Clarence W. and Beulah (Dennis) Bishop.

He retired in 1996 from Navistar after forty-one years of service. He was a US Army Korean War veteran and retired from the Ohio Air National Guard, where he served with the 178th Tactical Fighter Group. Bob was a life member of VFW #1031and served as Post Commander from 1976-1977, past District Commander of 3rd District VFW from 1979-1980, and served various State of Ohio VFW offices, including State Sr. Vice Commander. He was also a member of F.O.E. #397, Anthony Lodge # 455 F & AM, American Legion, DAV, and Amvets.

He is survived by nine children and spouses, Roberta and Tom Scurlock, Ron and Charlotte Bishop, Margaret and Frank Wilson all of Springfield, Kate Zock, Inverness, FL, T.J. and Gina Bishop, Springfield, Mitchell and Rachelle Laws, Lakeview, OH, Michelle and Craig Ignatowitz, Hazleton, PA, Melissa and Marty Puckett, Springfield and Robert W. Bishop Jr., Warren, OH; twenty-seven grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister, Rosemary Rapp, brother and sister-in-law Richard and Phyllis Bishop, sister-in-law, Bobbie Fenner all of Springfield; special aunt, Louise Donnelly and several nieces and nephews, including a special niece and nephew Joann North and David Rapp and special family friend Judy Brown.

He was preceded in death by his wife Marsha L in 2004, daughter Susie Bishop, son Brian Laws, sister Genevieve Heinzen and a grandson Eric Bishop and a great granddaughter Bridget Udtana.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Conroy Funeral Home with VFW services at 6:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Pastor James Welch officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.
