Maynard K. Bonner


Maynard K. "Kenny" Bonner, 56, loving husband, father, brother and friend passed away peacefully in Springfield Regional Medical Center High Street Campus, Sunday January 25, 2009 surrounded by his family due to complications caused by a hit-and-run motorcycle accident in 2000.

He was born April 21, 1952 in Battle Creek, Michigan to the late Maynard and Dora (Phillips) Bonner. He was a 1970 graduate of South High School. Kenny was an avid motorcycle rider and loved his Harley Davidson—from Chopper to Trike. He also was a musician with a passion for the drums. He played with many local bands and devoted many years to the "Rock Old" band.

Kenny retired from Navistar in 2003 with almost twenty-nine years of service. He was a member of the U.A.W. local 402, Moose Lodge 536, Union Club, Machinist Club, Co-founder of Moose Riders 536 and served as Region 3 Coordinator of Ohio State Moose Rider Association for several years.

He is survived by his wife of thirty six years Crystal (Smith) Bonner of Springfield, their children, Tamara (Andrew) Abraham and Cory Bonner all of Springfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law who he raised, April (Larry) Sparks, Cedarville, Heath (Julie) Lambert, Springfield; sister, Daisy Helen Lilly, Springfield; sister-in-law, Rachel Rhodes, brother-in-law, Jerry Smith Jr. both of Springfield; step-grandchildren, Gabriel and Xavier Abraham; nieces and nephews including Hayley, Zachary and Laina Lambert all of Springfield, Jessica Shields and Jarrett Sparks, Cedarville, Doug Lilly, Columbus, Amanda (Nick) Bednar, Texas, Gabrielle, Rachel and Mindy Smith, Mike and Kari Closson all of Springfield and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews and many, many devoted friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law, Jerry Smith Sr., mother-in-law Rachel (Woodruff) Smith Lambert, brother-in-law, Edward Lilly and niece, Tiffany Smith.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Conroy Funeral Home with Moose Lodge services at 6:30 p.m. followed by Moose Riders services. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Stidham officiating. Burial will be in Ferncliff Cemetery.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Dr. Muir and Dr. Varghese and the nurses and support staff on 2 south and 4th floor ICU, High Street Campus for the wonderful care they provided Kenny.
