Mersia Leona Bailey


Mersia Leona Bailey passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2008 in Houston, Texas at the age of 95.

Miss Bailey was born in Conley, Kentucky. She was a Captain in the U.S. Army and served in WWII as a nurse from 1943 to 1947. After leaving the Army in 1947, Miss Bailey worked in a hospital in Oklahoma with children with polio and later relocated to Houston where she worked at the VA Hospital and St. Joseph's Hospital until 1972, when she retired.Miss Bailey loved gardening, reading her newspaper, working the newspaper crossword puzzles, keeping up with the latest local and national news, enjoyed keeping up with her adopted grandchildren and great grandchildren and her dogs. She lived for every holiday, especially Christmas.

Miss Bailey was preceded in death by her father, Bob Bailey; mother, Brownie Bailey; brothers, Donald Bailey, Forest H. Bailey, Winford Bailey and Gwyn M. Bailey; sisters, Roma Quigley, Phyllis J. Turner, Sina Rose Kennedy and Elga Sturgill.

She is survived by three of her sisters, Drexia McGuire, A. Josephine Welch and Delphia Kleiner; and her beloved adopted family Amador Jimenez, Maria Nora Jimenez, adopted grandchildren Amador Jimenez, III, Ramon Jimenez and his wife Monica, Nora A. Melendez and her husband Alex, and Gerardo A. Jimenez; and her adopted great grandchildren Alessandra Jimenez, Anthony Jimenez, Joshua Jimenez, Jisella Jimenez, Gerardo Melendez and Carmen Melendez.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Earthman Bellaire Funeral Home, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, Texas. Services will be Thursday at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Rose Hill Burial Park Springfield, Ohio. RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME has been entrusted with arrangements.
