Charlet Mae Brooks


Charlet Mae Brooks, 89, of Springfield died Saturday, July 12, 2008 in Villa of Springfield following several years of declining health.

She was born September 19, 1918 in Norwood, Ohio the daughter of Hugh and Ruth (Smiley) Hill.

Charlet was reared in Greenfield, Ohio where she met and married her first husband, Tim Suthers. Following his death she came to Springfield about 1960 and met Walter J. Brooks, to whom she was married until his death in 1994. Besides being a mother, Charlet was probably best known for helping tend their large garden on Kenton Street and selling the produce to the neighborhood.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law Donna and Tom Dawson, Shirley and Mike Williams and Brenda and Mike Graves, all of Springfield; ten grandchildren Darrick (Beth) Dawson of Springfield, Steven Dawson of Henderson, Nevada, Tonya Heironimus, Mike (Laura) Williams II, Scott (Stacy) Williams, Kevin Williams, Ryan Graves, Jared Graves, Kaitlin Graves and Tessa Graves, all of Springfield ; eleven great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by two daughters Cherry Ann Suthers and Wanda Lee Newman; two brothers Fred and James Hill; and a sister Ettamae Cogan Gray.

Friends may call Monday from 6-8 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM. in the Memorial Home with Rev. Craig Grammer officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, South Charleston.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Brooks' name to the American Alzheimer's Association.
