Wilbur Richard Allender


Wilbur "Wib" Richard Allender, age 89 passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 in St. John's Care Center. The family wishes to thank all the staff at Mercy St. John's Care Center for the loving care he received.

He was born July 9, 1919 in Springfield, Ohio to Rhodus Eli and Carrie Rhoda (Laird) Allender. He served our country in the United States Army during World War II in the Headquarters Company of the 808th Tank Destroyer Battalion in Europe. Wib was manager of Fulmer Stores for twenty years and worked as a food broker for several companies. He was a member of the North Hampton Community Church and a long time member of Lagonda United Methodist Church.

Wilbur is survived by his wife of almost 68 years, Mildred "Milly" (Sowers); one daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Terry O'Brien and daughter-in-law Martha (Cook) Allender, all of Springfield; three grandchildren, T.J. O'Brien of Port Charlotte, Florida, Scott (Leigh Anne) O'Brien of Independence, Kentucky and Meghan Allender of Findlay, Ohio; three great grandchildren Jackie, Emma and Jack O'Brien; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son C. Richard Allender and brother Laird Allender.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 2:00 PM. in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME with Pastor Jim Welch officiating. Burial will be in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Friends may call Saturday from 1-2 PM. in the Memorial Home.
