Seldon Ray Adkins


Seldon Ray Adkins, 74 of Springfield, passed away on March 12, 2008 in his residence.

He was born on March 12, 1934 in Denton, Kentucky the son of Voyle L. and Bessie (Bentley) Adkins.

Ray now joins his wife of forty years, Nancy Lou Adkins who preceded him in death in June of 2000.

He served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. Ray was active at the VFW Post 3660 where he led the post as Commander for many years. He also was a member of the Am Vets Post 25.

Ray is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law: Carol Adkins and companion Dorothy McIlroy of Springfield; Marilyn and Okie Kinder of Williamsburg, Kentucky; and Kathleen and Claude Penwell of Alma, Georgia; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jo Brown Adkins of Springfield; a sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Dave Sartzwelder of Ironton; seven grandchildren: David, Katie, Stacy, Jessica, Joey, Shanell, and Charles; three great grandchildren, two sisters-in-law: Nora Adkins of Florida; and Christine Adkins of Tennessee; numerous nieces and nephews, and companion, Dorothy Givens. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two sons, John and Ronald Adkins, five brothers: Voyle "Junior", Joe Carson, James, Robert, and Henry Bentley Adkins; and one granddaughter, Amy Penwell.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 1-3 p.m. in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME where services will be held on Monday at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor William Blain of the High Street Church of the Nazarene officiating.
