Robert E. Aker


Robert E. Aker, 84, of Springfield, died Wednesday evening, November 26, 2008 in Springfield Regional Medical Center, East High Campus. He was born in Phoneton, Ohio on August 5, 1924 the son of E.E. and Rilla (Heffner) Aker.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII having been stationed in the Pacific Theater. He was a graduate of the Ohio State University. Bob retired as an electrical engineer from International Truck & Engine after 25 years of service. He was an avid bowler, boating enthusiast and classic car collector.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Barbara L. (Atchison) Aker; four children, Deborah Sanders and Diane and Steve A. Everhart all of Springfield, Jeffrey Aker of Charleston, South Carolina, and Joseph Robert and Erica Aker of Indianapolis; a sister, Catherine Brown of Vandalia, Ohio; two grandchildren, Toby (Rachel) Sanders and Megan Everhart; three great grandchildren, Andruw Sanders, Chloe Sanders, and Corrin Peterson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Mary Hutchison.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 p.m. Friday in the LITTLETON & RUE FUNERAL HOME. A private graveside service will be held in Ferncliff Cemetery with Rev. Dwight McCormick officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or Northminster Presbyterian Church.
