Helen E. Acton

Helen E. Acton, 90, of New Carlisle, passed away Saturday March 26th, 2016. She was born May 16, 1925 in Minersville PA, to Procop and Mary Ivanyk, both immigrants from Ukrainia.

She grew up in Evanston IL, where, after graduating from high school, she met Robert Acton at a USO show. In 1944 Bob went overseas in the Navy during WWII. They were married when he returned. After a few years in Evanston they moved to the Springfield area, where they raised 5 children.

Helen was mostly a domestic mom, but as the kids grew older worked in New Carlisle at Keifer's Market and at Group Insurance as an office manager. She and husband Bob were perfect parents, firm and fair (a tough job with 5 kids), but overridingly loving and supportive. Always happy and outgoing, she made friends all over the area, and remained a close lifelong companion to her next door neighbor, Jean Whitaker.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 60+ years Robert (and his parents and siblings), and her sisters Ann LeBell of Metarie, LA and Mary Hunt of Evanston, IL.

She is survived by her elder brother Peter Ewanick and wife Joy of Santa Barbara, California; daughter Carol Metz of Centerville; son Mike and wife Debi of Springfield; son Stephen and wife Linda of Toledo; daughter Robin and husband Frank Borasz of Huber Heights; and son Bill of Centerville; 15 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of the Miami Valley for their gentle, caring assistance during her last days; Patriot Ridge Nursing Home; and United Senior Services of Clark County.

Private memorial services will be conducted for family and close friends at their convenience. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Hospice of the Miami Valley and United Senior Services. Arrangements by the TROSTEL, CHAPMAN, DUNBAR & FRALEY FUNERAL HOME, New Carlisle, Ohio. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.trostelchapman.com.
