Richard H. Benning


Richard H. Benning, 95, of Springfield, died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday in Community Hospital.

He was born in Springfield on July 24, 1912 the son of David and Zanna (Thornton) Benning. He was the owner of Benning Trucking, which was a U.S. Postal Service contractor and prior to that time he was retired from International Harvester Truck Processing Center. He was a member of the Union Club and Local 402.

Survivors include his four children and spouses, Gerry A. Robinson, John D. and Judith Benning, R. Stephen and Helen Benning all of Springfield and Dan A. and Diane Benning of South Charleston; 10 grandchildren and spouses, Jay Robinson, John Benning, Cheri and David Peart, David Benning, Susan and Jeff Young, Christopher and Darlene Benning, Rick Benning, Patti and Brian Ulery, Tricia Benning and Travis and Cherie White; 12 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He lived a very long, active and healthy life, enjoyed being around people and was very independent. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary in 2000, sister, Louise Bostick and brother, Willis Benning.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in Conroy Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with Deacon Norm Horstman officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Second Harvest Food Bank, 701 E. Columbia Street, Springfield, Ohio 45503.
